The Village on Sage Street is set to open in July. More than 200 single-occupancy units are available to prospective renters who make between $1,330 and $2,680 per month.
That puts the rent at 30% of income or less, and the $400/month includes utilities. There’s a waiting list, but applications are still being accepted.
“The Village on Sage Street… is intended to mitigate homelessness in Northern Nevada, and will serve low-income community members,” said Margaret Stewart of the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.
The property features the private rooms, shared bathrooms, a recreational building, and a dining hall.
“Our goal for the Village on Sage is that this bridge housing is a hand up, not a handout or a profit maker,” said Chris Askin of the Community Foundation. “A person earning $9 an hour will be able to afford the $400 monthly rent and achieve savings goals. Any single adult without a criminal history and with an income of approximately $1,333to $2,650 per month will meet the income qualifications for residency.”
Residents will be offered financial counseling, and while rent is month-to-month, there is no time limit on the length of residency.
